WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT'S ALMOST BEEN 2 YEARS SINCE I LAST POSTED ANY PROPER ART IN HERE???

"Merkstave" is a part of drawing runes. It's kind of like drawing a reverse tarot card. It literally means "dark stick" and means "in opposition". Now, I don't know a whole lot about drawing runes, but I know more about runes themselves than I do individual tarot cards. Blame The Forbidden Game... or thank it.

Anyway, certain runes cannot be reversed... only in opposition. Like Isa - the rune of Ice. It is possibly the easiest runes of the bunch. It's simply a vertical line. That's it, no other parts, nothing too crazy. Just a line. But it's meaning is a little more complicated.

"A challenge or frustration. Psychological blocks to thought or activity, including grievances. Standstill, or a time to turn inward and wait for what is to come, or to seek clarity. This rune reinforces runes around it. Isa Merkstave (Isa cannot be reversed, but may lie in opposition): Ego-mania, dullness, blindness, dissipation. Treachery, illusion, deceit, betrayal, guile, stealth, ambush, plots." -[link]

Yeah, between this and the whole ice business, I figured it worked best out of all of the runes. Oh, and Isa falls under Heimdall's Aett (the eight runes attributed to Heimdall)... and describe the conflict between him and LOKI.

Enough about that. I'm sure there's more, but hell if I know.

I've been playing around with a fairly new shading style. It kind of grew out of how I colored "Tokyo Love Story", and I've been trying to make it work for AGES. It had been used on the WIP of "Another Side of the Truth", but it's not finished yet. It's basically instead of layering one shadow inside another (to get core shadows and the like), I'm drawing one shadow per multiple light sources. For example, let's say there's a global light like overcast sunlight and a direct light from a fire... I shade with a light to medium shadow for the overcast light since it's not very strong, but I have a darker and warmer shadow for the fire. The two overlap for a nice dark core shadow naturally. Of course, depending on what's being lit, sometimes I have to go in and erase and move the shadow around, but so far, it's worked pretty well.

Well, it's a lot later than I expected, but I really wanted to post something as soon as I had it finished, so closing notes

Reference used - my good friend ~post-it-ninja (who needs to cosplay him), Avengers armor Loki (dear god), drawn pencil on cardstock, cell photo into computer since my desktop still isn't fixed(yeah, did all this on my netbook), inked in Manga Studio, colored in Photoshop with a snazzy new Bamboo Create (the medium one. It's bigger than the netbook).

**Edit** Wow, I think I need to rebalance the colors... they're a lot more... blah on this computer.
